Neurological conditions are medically diagnosed conditions that affect the bodies nervous system, including the brain, brainstem, spinal cords and the remaining nerves that run through your body. Once affected these non-functioning nerves can affect your movement, walking, posture, mood and overall life.
We assess and assist participants with a wide range of issues including and not limited to neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Neuron Disease (MND), SpinoCereballar Ataxia, Cerebral Palsy, CerebroVasuclar Accident (CVA)/Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Parkinson’s Disease and many more.
Each person will have a different need with a neurological condition, so we take the approach of building a tailored plan for you. Once our physiotherapist visit’s your home, they will discuss with you what you are having trouble doing (eg/ transfers, shoulder pain, fall, unable to walk). They will then assess your movement, your strength, power, ability to complete functional tasks. Your physio will also assess your home and ensure it is correctly built for you, checking your bathroom, bedroom and living space. We are also able to check the rest of your home and determine if you need any equipment such as a ramp or rails to make life easier and safer for you and possibly refer you to an Occupation Therapist (OT) or work with your current OT or other allied health specialist to ensure your home modification is suited to you.
With certain neurological diseases we understand that our participant may have lost a lot of their independence. If it is required, we are more than happy to train your family, support workers and other informal supports to assist with you things such as completing a physiotherapy prescribed exercise plan, teach them how to assist with transfers or complete walking/mobility safely together.
